Monica Kulander • Secretary

Monica Kulander is a retired, high school Language Arts teacher. She has a Master of Science degree in Education from Cal State University, East Bay and has worked as an educator in California and Minnesota, as well as in the Queen's England. Her husband, Ken, took her to her first opera performance of The Magic Flute in Minnesota in the 1970's, and she fell in love with this art form then and there. Opera has proven to be a lifetime adventure of learning and appreciation for Monica, especially after deciding to get more involved with Livermore Valley Opera (LVO) as a volunteer.

She was first asked to share her "large brush" talents as a member of the set construction team. Monica liked the work and the wonderful people she met so much, that she continued to say "yes" when asked for help over the years. Her various volunteer roles with the company include set painting, working events such as Opera in the Vineyard, and organizing the annual LVO entry in the Livermore Rodeo Parade. Monica joined the board in 2010, and is now in charge of managing, recruiting, motivating, rewarding and retaining volunteers.
